The problem with Linux

Posted by Brad | Posted in Ramblings | Posted on 26-04-2009

So I have ubuntu la de da 9 on my vista laptop courtesy of a virtualbox partition so I don’t have to worry about fucking up by beloved windows laptop that I have setup to do anything I need so I can do business online.

And time after time I get the same shit with linux (which I have been having a stab at once every couple of years since ages ago), you want to do something, so you must find out a program that enables you to do it.

You look around google for people that wanted to do the same thing and you end up with a program name that means nothing to any normal human being, which you then install through a command line using lots of “flags” that again mean nothing to anyone that does not do this sort of shit all the time.

So you think, great, now I got my program, it’s even open source and thats amazing… but wait a second, the installer fucks out because you didn’t have some other stupid thing installed, so you go to some ugly wiki shit to get that, work out how to get hold of it and put it on, but then oops… that shit needs you to install something else from some other place.. and so it goes on and on and on… until yet again you go mwahhhh fuck it, I will just stick with windows where I can actually get stuff done rather than pissing about with installers and getting nothing actually done.

For those wondering what the hell I am trying to do, I’m wondering how to crack WPA wifi network passwords with ubuntu and aircrack-ng.

And have lots of things installed that may or may not be related to eachother, but ultimately from all these shitty youtube tutorials made by people who do just spend their lives on the command line rather than producing things that are intelligible to someone new to linux… anyway.. I have achieved nothing so far.

But at least I have a work in progress that I can choose to go back to whever I can be bothered to have another stab, at least I found that this virtualbox thing is a nice way to virtualise an OS to play around with.

Matter of opinion – surely?

If you had 100+ examples of someone being an idiot over several months, and then someone else told you that the person wasn’t an idiot – would that change your opinion to no longer think of them as an idiot?

No, I didn’t think so either.

An idiot is an idiot.

Quantum of Solace

Me and my wife Natasa went to see the new bond movie quantum of solace on it’s release date this friday just gone (for me it was mostly to avoid having to deal with all the fucking trick or treat armys of council benefit scroungers in the area).

I pre-booked the tickets on the Vue website, and we popped off to the pub beforehand just after work as my wife works for a cool company that has company drinks every month where everyone gets to socialise and enjoy time outside of work together, you know, one of those companies that gives a fuck about it’s employees, before you ask no she does not work for Google.

Anyway back to the movie, although I booked tickets in advance the seating for movies in the UK is not on a booked seat basis its just find what you can when you get in there. So having arrived 10 mins before the start time (including all the shitty adverts that you pay to see…) we find ourselves in the main screen in row two, so pretty much litterally in screen 1.

There is so much hype here about this film and I didnt see what the hell it’s all about the film had the most sudden ending ever and I felt like it had at least another half an hour to run, there looked to be some good action scenes in it but when you are in row two everything it just a blur when it comes to fast action scenes… we got home and I was releved to see that Haloween had come and gone only to see a programme about QoS on the TV… I felt englightened to what I had missed… looked like the action scenes were indeed very good. But what happened to the end of the movie?…

We all appear to still be alive!

Well I believe CERN did it’s stuff a couple of hours ago as me and my wife heard on the radio while driving to work this morning, being told 26 mins to go until they fire up the experiment!.

So now its a couple of hours later and after rewriting half my Bingo website so I can serve news content from dynamically created URLs that the search engine spiders just love, I remember.. hang on… wasn’t the reset button on life pressed a couple of hours ago…

I wonder what they found out so far.

Seriously why are all the best stand-ups dying?

Yesterday yet another great guy died, George carlin, so the ledgendary Bill Hicks is gone, Mitch Hedberg is also up in heaven making people laugh, everyone that tries to make a difference clocks off early, why is that?.

R.I.P. George, you were certainly a smart guy with a great attitude.
