To my initial disappointment speediest.net reported 1-3mb download speeds but then I read one of the emails from sky that mentioned their “training period”, where for the initial 10 days your line is increasingly made faster to determine the maximum bandwidth it can handle while remaining stable.

On day 3 (yesterday) it jumped to a consistent 5mb speed, today a consistent 7.5mb with 1mb upload speed. You can login to your router admin page at http://192.168.0.1 with he username admin and password sky (these details are for the current Sagem router at least). There you can see he current speed you are allocated during testing, today I am on 9 so 7.5 is fine.

Six more days raining to go, we live about 1000 metres from the exchange so I’m optimistic that faster speeds are coming tomorrow.

Just a tip for those who are also starting or considering starting with sky ;).

EDIT: Day 5, and the download speed is between 10 and 12.5 Mb… bloody awesome and faster than I was getting with Virgin Media – if it gets faster that’s great, if this turns out to be my maximum then that’s perfectly fine.

Two tips would be to place the router centrally within your house (potentially difficult as it’s pretty much needed to be near your TV set top box so you can connect Anytime + via ethernet to broadband. Second tip is to use something like WIFI analyser for android to work out which channels your neighbours are using so you can pick one with minimal potential interference that has not yet been taken.

This prototype uses the System.Net.WebClient class to “bootstrap” itself, and from there, awesomenes ensues.

From a PowerShell prompt, run the following command:

Currently I use Console2 for my command prompt… might just have to change that now :)

During the recent Meet the Managers online consultation, it became clear many customers were not aware they can get an extra 15 minutes of usage if a docking station is full when you come to return your cycle. So I am sending this mail to ensure everyone knows how to take advantage of this.

To do this, touch the ’No docking point free’ icon on the terminal screen and you will automatically be granted the extra time. The status of empty docking points at the nearest six terminals is always available on the terminal screen and maps are displayed showing their locations.

Please note that if you hired more than one cycle this request needs to be made for each cycle on hire.

So if you can actually get a bike when you need one, and find you can’t get rid of it at your destination, doing the above will give you 15 mins extra to race around looking for somewhere slightly further… and further and further to re-dock it…

I tried the hire bikes, found it to be a massive let-down. The gear ratio is too low so you have no hope in hell of going fast on one, waterloo is out of them in the morning, if you get a key for yourself and your wife on the same account, then everytime you borrow a bike yourself you get charged for two bikes (utterly retarded logic).

If you are a tourist and want a way to get around London, they are probably great, for commuting purposes.. no chance.

I found a program for windows called iExplorer, which seemed to bring up the iBooks directory and I could copy and paste all my 48 treasured programming PDFs over to windows in the way you would expect to do by default… except the file names had all been mangled into unreadable names but still the PDFs are intact.

Then I run the update in iTunes…. and what a shock, 45 minutes later its all done and dusted… all my apps still there.. all my iBooks PDFs still there… games with progress still intact… such as asphalt 6 adrenaline….

Bloody delighted… couldn’t have been smoother in the end!
