I finally decided to jump on the Wii Bandwagon

Capture 489x184 I finally decided to jump on the Wii Bandwagon.

After a quick go on a friends Wii yesterday I decided to get one myself and spent a while looking for the most cracking deal I could find Also I want to drop a bit of weight and pretty much every review of the Wii Fit Plus thing says it’s shithot for dropping a stone or two so I wanted a bundle deal of the two with a couple of decent controllers for fun games. Play have the limited edition black wii with the fit plus and a few sports games too for £240 with free delivery just need to wait a week or two for stock.

For the extra controller I ordered a black wii remote with motion plus from Tesco and used plenty of clubcard vouchers taking the cost to 71p, sweet bargain hunting again…

This combined with the Dyson DC25 we picked up from Argos over christmas for £195 reduced from £285 and Todds Maxi Cosi Axiss car seat for £145 from £210 means we bagged a few bargains this new year.

Theo upgraded to a Maxi-Cosi Axiss car seat today

axiss Theo upgraded to a Maxi Cosi Axiss car seat todayWe decided last week that the Maxi-Cosi Axiss was the one to get, but it was out of stock everywhere that had a remotely decent price on it (generally retails  around £210). So today we popped into Mothercare to order one for delivery, turns out you can’t even do that!

In the week the manager of that branch of Mothercare offered me 10% discount for the one on display which is in perfect condition – I told him I had a voucher for 10% off anyway – he wouldn’t go the extra mile and make it a 20% discount so we had no deal.

Today however we were more persuasive and he caved in – so with the £25 gift card our friend Anu gave us – and the £170 price the manager agreed to we got the seat we wanted there and then – fitted for us – for the far more reasonable cost of £145. It’s a great char too, the chair turns on the base when you pull a lever on either side so your child can face the door while you strap them in, then with a turn of the chair they are facing forward ready to go.

A very smart design they most likely have patented.

Kiddicare have them in stock for delivery, get your child a maxi-cosi axiss car seat now and make putting them in and out of the car a breeze, and back ache a thing of the past.

Found out how to dynamically create header text images!

2328817108 b875346ca1 m Found out how to dynamically create header text images!If you are looking at the title tags on my blog from today you will notice they look utterly friggin’ beautiful. There is a javascript include called cufon that you upload a font to their site, select a couple of easy options, their site then generates a text file that converts your TTF fonts into a mumbo jumbo code their javascript understands.

Then the magic happens

Upload the generated file, the javascript framework file, and optionally a couple of extra customizations then wack code into your header and footer.

Add to header such as

<script src=”/js/cufon-yui.js” type=”text/javascript”></script>
<script src=”/js/bradfont3_700.font.js” type=”text/javascript”></script>

Add to footer such as

<script type=”text/javascript” src=”/js/cufon-config.js”></script>

Whats the point of all this?

Your regular text titles etc will be converted to super antialiased images on the fly in the browser for a super sleek custom font look, great for sites with a DB back end such as this wordpress blog!.

My cufon-config.js on day1 includes just this

Cufon.replace(‘h1′)(‘h2′)(‘h3′);
Cufon.now();

But that could change as I play with it more, but for now this is perfect.

Scientology in Hammersmith

Posted in Ramblings | Posted on 28-11-2009

To my surprise today I saw 4 desks & chairs on the pavement all brightly offering a “free stress test”, with dianetics in smaller text and a couple of mentions of the science fiction writer ron hubbard on the side, I instantly recognised this as the evil beginning of scientology. About 10 years ago in Munich I was walking out of my hotel to be greeted by someone in the street who said “GusGott”, which turned out to be good day in the southern German region, which I didn’t understand so he spotted me as a foreigner and next thing I knew I was invited into this building to talk about something or other and see if I would be interested in buying a couple of books… I turned it down and left the building.

Little did  I know that was Scientology trying to lure a 25 year old me into it’s clutches, so today the more informed me saw this little show and wanted to have a go of some sort at them. As I walked back to the car I walked more and more slowly… then a girl asked me if I was interested in a free stress test… to which I confidently replied “Isn’t this that cult that takes away all your money?”, she said “No it isn’t”, I looked at it and finally said “well it certainly looks like it”, then walked away feeling good about my dig at evil.

For those who don’t know what all this is about, just check out the BBC episode about them.
